The Property and the Restaurant
Records show that the property at 7th and King Streets had residential buildings located there up until 1958. Land use records show the property was vacant in 1959 which was part of the construction process. James A. Hoeschler, the president of a local firm, established plans to build a combination drive-in and dine-in restaurant. In 1960, Country Kitchen opened its doors. The restaurant was known for its drive-in with large menus and curb-side service, an attractive dining room, and carry out service. Business records show that the restaurant was “Home of the Fresh Strawberry Pie.”
